I Have An Animal Nesting In My Chimney.

Wood Burning Fire Places/Stoves.

creosote can form when wood is burned incompletely. A smoky fire without enough oxygen emits lots of unburned tar vapors that can condense inside the flue and stick to it, possibly leading to a chimney fire. You can reduce creosote build-up in your fireplace by providing adequate combustion air, which will encourage a hot, clean-burning fire.

If the groove you scratch in the creosote is paper thin, no cleaning is needed. If it’s 1/8 in. thick, schedule a cleaning soon. If you have 1/4 in. of creosote, do not use the fireplace again until it is cleaned; a chimney fire could occur at any time.

There are 3rd stages of creosote black shinning, a soot like tar that can be removed doing what is called a Ro-kleen system. It’s where we take a 1/2 power drill with adjustable plate to set the steel chain links to proper flue size. Then beat the soot off the Terra cotta Removing 80 to 90 % of debris creosote.

Is It Really Necessary To Have My Chimney Swept?

Yes it is, for safety reasons. Having your chimney swept will stop the build-up of creosote and soot. This will reduce the risk of chimney fires and alleviate other hazards such as soot falls, blockages, building debris and animal nesting. Having a yearly inspection (depending on your heating method) will help you safely and efficiently heat your home!

This has to be the most frequently asked question!
You should never leave to much time between chimney sweeps / inspections.
It all depends on the type of fuel that is used in your heating system / chimney:

• Oil: Once per year
• Gas: Once per year

Wood:Once per season when in use
Bitumous coal:Twice per year
• Smokeless coalsAt least once per year

Blockages in chimneys connected to gas fires places can cause a build-up of carbon monoxide and other harmful gases. Even though gas fire places are less prone to these issues, it is always wise to get a professional opition.
